GEORGES SIMENON.
Eight trips of a novelist
10 April 2025 – 8 February 2026
Galleria Modernissimo, Bologna
On the trail of Georges Simenon: an exhibition which will be a long journey in search of the roots of genius, through his own travels, his papers, films drawn from his works, photographs taken during his reports in France, Europe, Africa, in the world unconsciously heading towards World War II.
We will witness the birth of Georges Sim (this is how the young man often signed his debut) and meet Georges Simenon, the creator of Maigret, the author of “hard novels”, the novelist who acted as a publisher, the liégeois became a citizen of the world, the writer who, looking for himself, knew how to tell the fears, the obsessions, the atmospheres of the Short Century.
Georges Simenon. Eight travels of a novelist is the title of the exhibition, curated by Gian Luca Farinelli and John Simenon, that the Cineteca di Bologna will set up from April 10, 2025 to February 8, 2026 in the spaces of the Galleria Modernissimo, prepared for the occasion by Giancarlo Basili, in the heart of the city, in Piazza Maggiore: first important exhibition that comes after a decade’s work on the archive kept by the son of the writer, John Simenon, co-curator of an exhibition that has the institutional support of the Comune di Bologna, Emilia-Romagna Region and the Ministry of Culture and close cooperation with Adelphi Editore.
